Just recently the term "immersive" has started to gain more traction as the technology evolves and is receiving serious exposure. People are scambling to try and differentiate the term virtual and immersive when referring to next-generation technologies. In an October 1st Metanomics Blog piece Robert Bloomfield hit the nail on the head. "The term immersive media practically shouts integration and flexibility. Integration because these days the point of a medium is almost always to integrate it with other media. Flexibility because the term immersive media indicates what virtual world technology can become, rather than simply what virtual worlds are now."
